"Maidens of the Spear" Ingtar calls them. They also come upon some other guests of the Ogier. Rand keeps being surprised by the houses, like little hillocks with doors and windows. They ride on and find more Ogier working in the fields, playing, some trees Mat promptly insults their hosts by describing in terms of how many houses they could build. Though he hastens to assure his young friends he's good for at least a decade between visits. It's how ever since the Breaking Ogier separated from the stedding long enough grow sick and die. Loial also mentions the Longing, and when asked explains it isn't (or isn't just) homesickness.
Loial is very taken with her, much to Mat's amusement as he doesn't seem to get that his lack of attraction to an Ogier has nothing to do with what they might like. They are soon greeted by a young, female Ogier, Erith. Perhaps channeling is like psykers in 40K, everyone is on the spectrum somewhere, it's only at the extreme ends you get flashy visible effects. Interesting that absolutely everybody feels something. What crossing the border into a stedding feels like.
